The Artist Is Insane: An Exhibition of Mental Illness and Creativity

St George’s Arts Centre, St George’s Shopping Centre, Gravesend

A new and powerful solo exhibition exploring mental illness and creativity.

In this new exhibition we follow the life of Mud, an artist who has been creating work centred around mental illness, with a particular focus on Borderline Personality Disorder and psychosis.

The artworks included trace the threads of mental illness throughout Mud’s life, and vividly express the creativity which spawned as a result of ongoing mental health issues.

It seeks to bring talk of mental illness into the forefront through artistic mediums, and facilitate discussion of painful and taboo topics such as suicide, self-harm, or sexual abuse.

The strikingly raw visual representations of serious mental illness show what Mud is capable of in spite of this. Mud is determined to break through the silence and the shame, and to bust common myths around mental health.

This exhibition is for everyone, from those with mental health conditions, to professionals, to the general public.
