St George’s Arts Centre, St George’s Shopping Centre, Gravesend

A wonderful collection brought to the gallery by talented photographer, Martin Verrier. 

The display photographs relate to the tug fleets on the rivers Thames and Medway and to a ship repair yard which re-fitted and maintained these vessels. The images are representative of a declining industry, which once employed many skilled tradespeople over a long period of time in the repair yards on the Thames and Medway. The photographs epitomise the working practices of the industry from the 1970's through to the 1990's.
