Madeleine Tagg

St George’s Arts Centre

Madeleine Tagg is a wife, mother, grandmother and aspiring Artist living and working in Northfleet.

She writes:

“During my studies as an early years professional I developed an appreciation of early years mark making and how it is invaluable for not only the process and how it supports children’s development, but also their well-being. From developing the imagination, to how work is viewed and with all of its imperfections how it is received; I am of the opinion that all mark making has its value. It is with this in mind that I believe art is a platform for the imagination, where pictures on paper assist where the voice cannot or does not speak and should allow for self expression without judgement. Like mark making in the early years we should embrace imperfections so that we can learn to appreciate and motivate the perfections that are yet to come… the creators and inventors of the future.

While much of my art is often in graphite, my beliefs have motivated me to experiment and embrace what I call my ‘Scribbleit Art’ style. With this technique it has allowed me to pursue a less structured outlet for my art and to encourage the viewer to use their imagination and see beyond the ‘scribbles’, beyond the ‘imperfections’. This allows me to promote the subjective side of art when considering all aspects of mark making as having their place, having their worth; all be it to the individual creator or the viewer. It is a style that I would utilise to encourage an inclusive opportunity that is achievable and allows for freedom of expression.”
